Jaclyn Ryan’s Digital Portofolio
Master’s Capstone Project
Title of Capstone: “Digital Religion and Christianity in the United States of America: Research and Observations on How Younger Adults Engage with Their Faith on Instagram”
Jaclyn’s master’s capstone (non-thesis) project, focused on surveying the presence of “digital religion” and Christianity in American by surveying Christian Influencers and organizations Instagram posts from over a year’s worth of content to begin a discussion on how younger adults, (18-29-years-olds) Instagram’s largest age demographic (Pew Research Center, 2021), are engaging with their faith on Instagram. After surveying over 350 individual Instagram accounts and identifying over 20 different account categories, five primary account categories were identified with fifteen total Instagram accounts chosen for observation. Looking at over 10,000 posts from the chosen Instagram accounts (posts, videos, carousels, IGTVs, Reels, Guides, Stories, etc) the final deliverable focused on designing and populating a series of One-Sheets that made up a paper that modeled a thesis paper and defending the project before a graduate committee. The final deliverable consisted of a title page (shown right), research on the topic areas (Christianity in the United States, Digital Religion Space, Digital Religion and Instagram), methodology pages (account selection criteria and post-analysis qualification criteria), section dividers for the primary accounts (Chrisitan Celebrities, Christian Public Figures, Religious Resources, Young Adult Ministries, and Christian Memes), as well as individual one-sheets for each Instagram account observed in the project.

Since 2014, I have worked with various companies with social media and brand manager overseeing, management, planning, content gathering, content creating, campaign development, and campaign execution. (OCMG) - currently still employed, the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications Journalism Department as a Graduate Assistant, UF's Social Internship, Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), UF Doulos, UF's Kappa Kappa Gamma, UF CJC Study Abroad Program, and UF CJC Summer Media Institute.
Within the Cru at UF and UF Doulos movements, I headed a "Women's Night Out" event and social media branding campaign in 2017, where I oversaw. I created "UF Soul Scripts: No Strings Attached, "where we brought, now the instant best-selling author of "Own Your Everyday," Jordan Lee Dooley, to speak to over 300 college-aged students. While working as an intern with UF Social Media, I covered a UF Accents Speaking Event with Paul Rudd. I worked on the "Back to the Future Day" campaign and various "UF Decision Day" media coverages. I also designed, photographed and filmed video content for my advertising capstone campaign with our client: Tuscan Trails, a winery tour company based in Italy, where we coordinated internationally before traveling to Italy for the University of Florida's CJC study abroad program. While in Italy our team got to go on a Tuscan Trails tour where we visited multiple vineyards and locations where I gathered content (photography and videography) to later generate content (graphics, social media proposal, website, and other branded content) for our presentation to the client and our final plans book. My photos and video footage were later used through UF's in-house advertising agency, Elevate Agency while working with Tuscan Trails as a client.
I have project managed and created graphics, quotes, event coverage, social media campaign development, and execution, as well as overall brainstorming and ideation processing.
